Use of Infographics in Increasing Students’ Skills: An Experimental Study on the Information Services and Marketing Course

Abstract

Infographics are effective visual tools that contribute to delivering complex information easily to the audience. Infographics combine information and graphics to create a final product that simplifies complex information into specific points that can be attached to illustrative graphics. The creation of infographics relies on the mental skills of the infographic creator. Infographics are increasingly used in various fields, including marketing and education, especially in the library and information science fields.

Therefore, information professionals must possess skills in building and designing infographics. However, it is not necessary to have full knowledge of the design process for infographics using advanced graphic design programs, as there are many websites that provide free infographic templates. The requirement is to have a full awareness of how to use infographics creatively in marketing information services. Therefore, it is preferred for information professionals to learn new skills and integrate them into the library and information science field.

The American Library Association has included jobs related to instructional design, the infographic is one of the fields of educational design, are on the list of jobs for library and information science and technology. This indicates the existence of new skills that have been integrated into the library and information science field, which graduates of library and information science departments should possess. Graduates should acquire new skills that suit current technological developments, which will reflect positively on the image of library and information science departments and indirectly contribute to their marketing through the skills of the graduates.
