Abstract

In the shadow of the dominance of communication technology and its resulting intellectual production explosion and information revolution of the present era, we need speed in measuring and evaluating this growing intellectual production. Although the number of citations is a widely accepted indicator for measuring academic impact and evaluating research
Social media sites and networks have made it possible for users to interact and participate in content creation. This highlights the importance of academic communication sites, which aim to facilitate communication between researchers with the goal of interaction, information sharing, content organization, and evaluation. These sites provide tools that contribute to interaction with the content published on these sites, such as commenting on it, liking it, downloading it or sharing it with other users. This study aims to measure and evaluate the coverage of Arab researchers' intellectual production in the field of social and human sciences on different social media sites, as well as to analyze the relationship between alternative metrics and the number of references to that production. The study reached a number of results, including: the total number of readers and participation in the production of Arab researchers in the field of social and human sciences on social media sites was greater than the number of references to that production, indicating that it was of interest to the public and may have practical and professional benefits. Alternative metrics are important in highlighting other aspects when evaluating research
