Abstract

This article aimed to present a thesis titled (The Future of the Library and Information Profession in Egypt: A Study to Develop Future Scenarios), which aimed to explore the future of the library and information profession in Egypt during the next five years, according to a set of possible scenarios. The study relied on the survey method to survey the opinions of a selected sample of experts from among the faculty members who obtained the degrees of professor and assistant professor in the Egyptian library departments, and a sample of library managers that includes most types of libraries and information institutions (university - specialized - public - and the Egyptian Association for Libraries and Information). By using Delphi methods and setting scenarios, and relying on two successive rounds of measurements as a tool to survey the opinions of the study sample experts. The study reached a number of results, the most important of which is that there is a convergence in the opinions of experts about the priority of future expectations for the profession in Egypt during the two Delphi tours, and then the study presented three possible scenarios for the profession.The study also recommends a number of recommendations addressed to the state, the Egyptian Association for Libraries and Information, the Egyptian library and information departments, library leaders, library and information specialists, and researchers in the field of libraries and information, in order to implement the innovative scenario and advance the library and information profession in Egypt in the future.
