Arabic Databases: Objectives and Characteristics: Al Mandumah as a model

Abstract

This study dealt with the databases of Almandumah and introduced them and the objectives of the project of indexing the available Arab journals with their databases and the technical and general characteristics of the databases and the services they provide. It also dealt the explanation and analysis of the Arabic databases in Almandumah, which contain two databases for theses, one of which is a full text and the second is a bibliographic database only for theses data, in addition to five databases for Arab journals available,
The study also dealt with the qualitative characteristics of the Arab journals in the Almandumah database.
The study adopted the descriptive-analytical research method to collecting data research and analyze it.
One of the most important Results of the study was that the databases of Al Mandumah included 2421 Arab journals published by more than 1126 scientific institutions, in the first Al-Azhar University in Egypt as the most institutions and countries for journals available in the databases of Al Mandumah, and the Humanindex databases topped the most available databases for journals. The subject of education as a specialized topic is the most covered in the materials published in the Al Mandumah.
the overlap rate between databases reached 20% of the total percentage of journals, and the percentage of overlap in the distribution of journals objectively on databases reached 26% of the total percentage of journals.
The study recommends Dar Al-Mandumah Company to set standards for acquiring scientific journals that available in the Al Mandumah databases.
