Abstract

The study aims to monitor the reality of the Authority control of Arabic names in the Union Catalog of Egyptian Universities Libraries Consortium (EULC), This is done by analyzing and evaluating the three authority entries for the Arabic persons names in the bibliographic records on the Future System (FLS), to identify the problems resulted on not existing of the Authority File for the Arabic persons names in EULC, that helps to handle the authority control process for Arabic persons names in the Union Catalog of Egyptian Universities Libraries Consortium (EULC), which would improve the retrieval process and raise the efficiency of the Catalog performance.
Among the most prominent findings of the study are the many problems that resulted from the absence of an authority file for the Arabic persons names in the EULC, the most important of which is the problem of repetition of entries and the dispersion of the works of the same author, which resulted in confusing the catalogers and making them make big mistakes.
The study also concluded that the previous Arab experiences will have a major role in the project of establishing an authority file for Arabic persons names in the EULC, due to the fact that these experiences have a large balance of authority records for Arabic persons names in standard authority files based on the latest authority control standards.
