International Publishing Trends in Library and Information Science (LIS) from 2018 to 2022: An Analytical Study

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the intellectual output in the field of Library and Information Science (LIS) indexed in the Scopus and Web of Science databases during the period from 2018 to 2022. To achieve this, a comparative bibliometric approach employing quantitative and qualitative analysis of the retrieved data was utilized. The study focuses on tracking temporal, formal, geographical, linguistic, and institutional trends, as well as analyzing prominent research topics. The results revealed a higher number of scholarly articles in Web of Science, while Scopus demonstrated greater diversity in publication types. The findings also indicated the dominance of the English language and a notable contribution from the United States and India. Thematic analysis of the publications indexed in both databases showcased a variety of topics, with continued interest in bibliometric measurements, information literacy, and information behavior. The research concludes by offering practical recommendations for enhancing publishing within this field.The research culminates in the articulation of a set of actionable and strategic recommendations, specifically designed to foster the advancement of both the quality and volume of scholarly production in Library and Information Science at various academic and professional levels
