The Quality of Performance of Cairo University Libraries Employees and Its Impact on Their Personal Skills: A Field Study

Abstract

Modern trends in the management of human resources by in-stitutions now seek to focus on a new type of skills, namely soft skills, due to the changes in the requirements of the work environment and the rapid and tremendous development and specifications of new workers, while the focus on specialized, professional, technical or hard skills was the deciding factor in the work environment in the past. From this standpoint, library and information center institutions, like other institutions, also seek to encourage specialists to acquire and develop these new skills, because they support the work and development that helps library and information institutions achieve their goals and deliver their services to beneficiaries according to their needs and desires.

This study aimed to identify the personal skills of information specialists in the libraries of faculties and institutes of Cairo University, as this topic is of great importance in influencing the quality of job performance of employees and working to develop and improve this performance. The researcher relied on the field survey method for description and analysis, in order to achieve the main objective of the study, which is to know the relationship between personal skills and the quality of job performance of information specialists in the libraries of faculties and institutes of Cairo University. The study proved the existence of a strong relationship between each of the personal skills and the performance of employees in the work environment within the library.
